Independent Study Introduction
The introduction to your independent study sets the stage for what will follow. It is written formally –
COMPLETE SENTENCES and PARAGRAPHS
It includes the following:
- ➢ topic and title of your study
- ➢ research question
- ➢ purpose (what you hope to discover)
- ➢ the importance of this research to the family and/or society
- ➢ the limits of your investigation eg. time, location, size of your sample, gender, age,
- ➢ method of your investigation
- ➢ where will you get your information?
- ➢ what will you read? (be specific – what websites have you looked at? what journals have you examined? what books do you have? will you have statistics from Stats Can?)
- ➢ will you do a survey or an indepth interview?
- ➢ will it be qualitative (rich description or obervations)?
- ➢ -will it be quantitative (using numbers)
- ➢ 3 definitions that relate to your study

Approximately 1-1½ pages typed (MUST BE TYPED)
-style: - double spaced and the font is either 12 pt Courier or 12 pt Times New Roman
***pick one font and stick with it for the entire study
